Course Format:

            Classes will include discussion, audio-visual and PowerPoint presentations, and guest denominational resource leadership if available.

            As part of the grading and evaluation for the class, each student will be expected to compile a written paper and complete reading assignments. An exam may be given.

 

Class Goals and Objectives:

  1. To survey the major ideas, personalities and developments in Baptist life
  2. To understand the distinctives of Baptists in the greater Christian family
  3. To gain in appreciation the unity and diversity of Baptists
  4. To understand the dynamics and structure of the local church, associational life, and the regional and national bodies.
  5. To understand the “call to ministry” within the Baptist family
  6. To compare the worship models found in Baptist churches
  7. To compare the biblical model of the church to the present-day Baptist model
  8. To briefly survey the major personalities and movements that have been present in Maine
