American Baptist History and Polity

 This course is meant to survey the major ideas, personalities and developments in Baptist life; to understand the distinction of Baptists in the greater Christian family; to gain an appreciation the unity and diversity of Baptists; and briefly survey the major personalities and movements that have been present in Maine. The participant will come to understand the dynamics and structure of the local church, associational life, and the regional and national bodies; to understand the ‘call to ministry’ within the Baptist family; compare worship models found in Baptist Churches; and compare the biblical model of the church to the present day Baptist model.

 Each student should bring their local church’s Constitution and By-laws to the class.

Class schedule:

Location:  Buckfield Community Church

Time:        Sunday afternoons, 2:00-5:00p.m.

Dates:        October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

(Dates may be adjusted for registered students at the first class.)

 Students will register and pay the appropriate fees at the first class.
